EQUIPMENT

This list is of equipment commonly found on an investigation. HPE do not use all of this on all investigations as we work from a mediumship point of view. We do however use different equipment depending on the location to bring you evidence as and where we can.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

TORCHES

Torches are a staple piece of equipment for any paranormal team. Locations are usually dark and old. Buildings have steps and doorways, and outdoor locations have uneven ground. HPE recommend, and always ensure that we have a minimum of 1 torch per person on an investigation. This is for safety reasons.

Walkie Talkies

It is very important to keep in contact with every team member, and these help. Safety comes first, so ensure you can always communicate with the team

First Aid Kits

These are absolutely essential. A team kit should be kept with an assigned first aider and should contain plasters, antiseptic wipes, bandages, pins, meditape, antiseptic cream, bite spray, a bottle of water, tissues, a triangular bandage and any other things thought essential. Be prepared for any occurance. It also helps to include a notebook of emergency treatment for injuries and the first aider should carry a mobile phone to call ambulances if necessary.

Personal Attack Alarms

Should be carried by all team members. They are an excellent way of alerting the rest of the team that you are in danger, or hurt. Some also include a torch.

TESTING EQUIPMENT

Trigger Objects

Not usually suitable in some outdoor locations due to wind and other changes, but indoors a trigger object can be used by spirit to show you that they are present. Good objects are : Small toys, coins, pens, cups and even paper.

Thermometers

Paranormal Activity can sometimes be measured by a change in temperature. So a thermometer can be used to collect regular temperatures and record them in a notebook with time, place and change.

EMF METERS

EMF meters detect the electro-magnetic fields oftentimes associated with ghosts and haunting activity. But, don't be fooled into thinking that EMF's are exclusive to the paranormal. Appliances, televisions, digital alarm clocks, power lines, etc. all emit EMF's while in use. To get a feel for your EMF meter, we suggest you begin by scanning your home. Put it close to the T.V. set while it is both on and off. When you get a reading, scan to see actually how far the EMF extends away from the set itself. (http://www.ghostfinders.co.uk/tips.html)

COLLECTION EQUIPMENT

Digital Camcorder (preferably with nightvision)

Camcorders can be handheld and used to record the goings on, or left in an area in the hope of catching some activity in the empty space.

Notepads and Pens

Our researcher can easily fill 2-3 notebooks on a 5 hour investigation due to the amount of notes about atmosphere, what has been said, felt and seen and names and dates. Other uses include readings from the testing equipment, plaques, carvings and other transcriptions and for notes on weather and outside influences

Voice Recorders

EVP recordings are interesting pieces of evidence. Dictaphones, mobile phones and mp3 players can be used as voice recorders.

Digital Cameras

Cameras are another necessity on investigations. It is helpful for all team members to have one, but at least one within the team helps. A lot of evidence is caught on camera.

ANALYSIS EQUIPMENT

Computer with internet access

This is used to view photographs and videos, analyse temperature and emf recordings in the form of graphs and charts. It is used to play back recordings to check for evp's and its used for research. This is a definate essential for any team.

OTHER BITS

Mobile Phones

The simplest everyday things can be useful on an investigation. Mobile phones can be used for communication (safety) and many now have a variety of functions such as cameras, voice recorders and some even have a torch!

Batteries, Candles and matches

Paranormal activity has a habit of draining batteries. Therefore we recommend and practice, taking a large selection of batteries for all equipment, especially a large supply for our torches. We also try to carry candles and matches as backups.

Calendar or Diary

Another essential, for keeping track of investigation dates and times, team meetings, and members unavailable times.
